Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over the unlawful ban and withdrawal of accreditations of 25 journalists and media houses from covering the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The suit comes after SERAP issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government to reverse the ban or face legal action. SERAP is seeking an order to compel President Tinubu to reverse the ban and an order of perpetual injunction to restrain him or any other authority from arbitrarily revoking journalists’ accreditations.
The organization argues that the ban violates freedom of expression, access to information, participation, and media freedom.
