Alhaji Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Kudun Gatawa in Sokoto State, has reportedly died while in captivity.
Kidnapped about a month ago, Bawa had recently appeared in a viral video pleading with the Sokoto State Government, the Sultanate Council, and his family to secure his release by paying the ransom demanded by his captors.
In the video, the monarch, visibly distressed and injured, emphasized his years of service to the government, appealing for urgent intervention.
On Wednesday, one of his sons confirmed the tragic news of his death, marking a grim end to his ordeal and raising concerns about the escalating banditry in the region.
