Soldiers, Traders Clash In Abuja Market Over Phone Disputes

A fight broke out between soldiers and traders at popular Banex market in Abuja on Saturday, over a dispute about the sale of a mobile phone.

A viral video showed a multitude of civilians overpowering some soldiers during the altercation.

According to a trader, Abdul, the conflict started when some soldiers came to complain about a phone, leading to an argument with the traders, which eventually turned violent.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed intelligence officers to the scene to investigate the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Benett Igweh, has taken swift action to prevent further escalation, said spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh.

The Defence Headquarters and the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, could not be reached for comments.
