The Osun Masterminds (TOM), a human rights group, has linked recent deadly stampedes during palliative distributions to worsening hardship in Nigeria.
TOM’s Executive Director, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli, described these incidents as a wake-up call for President Bola Tinubu to address widespread poverty.
During a press briefing in Osogbo, Oyedokun-Alli lamented the tragedies in Ibadan, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, where stampedes claimed lives.
He attributed the chaos to economic policies that have deepened the suffering of ordinary citizens. “These heartbreaking incidents underscore the severity of hardship in Nigeria,” he said, urging the government to act swiftly to prevent further loss of life.
The group emphasized the urgency of implementing measures to alleviate the pain of struggling Nigerians.
The tragedies, they said, should spur the government into action, offering hope to those who have been impoverished by prevailing economic challenges.
