The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to begin the search for the new moon of Ramadan 1447 AH on Tuesday, corresponding to the 29th day of Sha’aban.
In a statement issued by the Sultanate Council, the directive asked faithful to report verified sightings through traditional channels for onward communication to the Sultan.
If confirmed, the sighting will signal the commencement of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar observed through fasting, prayer and charity.
The council prayed for divine guidance for Muslims as they prepare to fulfil their religious obligations during the holy month.
