His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, President of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has officially appointed Tuesday, April 29, 2025, as the first day of Zulki’ida 1446 AH, following an unconfirmed crescent sighting.
In a statement issued Monday by Wazirin Sokoto and Advisory Committee Chair Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council noted that no credible moon‐sighting reports were received across Nigeria on Sunday, April 27. “In accordance with Islamic tradition, if the new moon is not sighted, the current month completes 30 days,” the announcement said, confirming Monday, April 28, as the 30th day of Shawwal 1446 AH.
The Sultan urged Nigeria’s Muslim faithful to uphold values of compassion, tolerance, and mutual respect throughout Zulki’ida, praying for national peace and unity.
He commended the National Moon‐Sighting Committee and collaborating organizations for their diligence and encouraged all Muslims to rely on the Sultanate Council’s official proclamations for religious observance.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to timely, accurate guidance for the community and wished that Allah bless the new month and sustain the country’s prosperity.
