Former SGF, Babachir Lawal, has labelled the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project a “scam,” accusing the Tinubu-led government of lacking visible projects that benefit ordinary Nigerians.
Appearing on Channels TV, Lawal questioned the rationale behind celebrating the commissioning of just 30km of a 700km highway amid rising debt and economic hardship.
He criticised the project’s lack of transparency and feasibility. “It’s a scam, and Nigerians knew it from the start,” he said.
Lawal also took aim at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which he said has become a recycled campaign gimmick with little progress.
He lamented that in northern Nigeria, where he often travels, no federal roads are being built or rehabilitated.
The former SGF accused the Tinubu administration of focusing more on media optics than governance, warning that Nigerians deserve better infrastructure accountability.
His remarks come as Nigeria grapples with inflation, subsidy removals, and growing public dissatisfaction over unmet campaign promises and ballooning national debt.
