Tinubu Reshuffles Military Command, Elevates Oluyede as Defence Chief

President Bola Tinubu has approved a major shake-up in Nigeria’s military hierarchy, appointing new Service Chiefs in a bid to strengthen national security.

General Olufemi Oluyede takes over from General Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). 

Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I.

Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

In a statement signed by his media adviser, Sunday Dare, the President commended the outgoing chiefs for their patriotic service and urged the new appointees to justify his confidence through professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces. 

Tinubu emphasized that the appointments take immediate effect, underscoring his administration’s determination to recalibrate the defence architecture amid persistent security challenges across the country.
