Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully repelled an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, recovering rocket-propelled grenade launchers and explosives.
Military sources confirmed the clearance operation on Sunday, saying the terrorists were forced to flee after a fierce firefight.
No casualties were reported among security personnel. The recovery of RPGs and other weapons suggests the group had plans for larger attacks.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to dislodge bandits and terrorists from the northwestern region.
Residents of Dogon Daji community, where the battle occurred, have praised the military but call for sustained presence to prevent return of the insurgents.
The Lakurawa group has been responsible for numerous kidnappings and killings in the area.
Security analysts warn that without addressing root causes like poverty and unemployment, military gains may be temporary.
