The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced a new visa application process for immigrant visa applicants, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
According to the embassy, the updated procedure requires applicants to visit the US Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during their application process.
Announcing the directive on its official X (formerly Twitter) page, the embassy explained that the first visit will be for an In-Person Document Review to ensure applicants have all necessary documents for their visa interviews.
This step aims to reduce delays caused by incomplete applications. Applicants who fail to complete this step before their interview will be required to reschedule.
The second visit will involve the visa interview itself, conducted by a Consular Officer and scheduled by the National Visa Center (NVC). The embassy clarified that these measures are designed to streamline visa processing and prevent significant delays.
This announcement follows a recent transition to a new visa services provider for operations in Abuja and Lagos, effective August 26, 2024. Applicants are encouraged to visit the embassy’s website for more information.
