Vigilante Group Ambushes Police Patrol Team in Taraba, Kills Officer

A tragic incident occurred in Sandride village, Gassol local government area of Taraba state, where a local vigilante group attacked a police patrol team, resulting in the death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tapu Godfrey.

The police team, led by SP Jamu Emmanuel, was on a routine patrol when they were ambushed by the vigilantes, led by Ali Dissol. ASP Godfrey was shot in the leg and pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP David Iloyanomon, condemned the attack, describing it as “despicable and unwarranted.”

He assured that the command is working tirelessly to apprehend the fleeing attackers and bring them to justice. The police have deployed intelligence and operational resources to sustain the manhunt and combat crime and criminality in the area.

The commissioner extended his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased officer.
