We Found Illegal Alterations in Gazetted Tax Laws, Reps Panel Confirms

The House of Representatives Minority Caucus has confirmed that key provisions of Nigeria’s newly gazetted tax laws were altered without legislative approval after presidential assent.

An interim report by an ad-hoc committee revealed discrepancies between the versions passed by the National Assembly and those published in the official gazette, particularly within the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025.

Among the alterations identified were lowered reporting thresholds, new mandatory deposits for tax appeals, expanded enforcement powers, and removal of National Assembly oversight provisions.

The committee described the changes as a serious breach of legislative authority and democratic norms, requesting additional time to conduct a deeper investigation into the matter.
