Residents of Wuse District in Abuja have appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to urgently restore public water supply, saying dry taps have persisted for nearly three weeks.
In an emotional plea on Sunday, affected residents in Wuse Zones 1, 2, 3 and Wuse II said they have been forced to buy water from vendors at exorbitant prices, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
They accused the FCT Water Board of negligence and demanded immediate action from the minister to address what they described as a basic necessity. “We cannot continue to live like this.
The government must do something,” one resident said. The prolonged shortage has also raised concerns about hygiene and the spread of waterborne diseases in the heart of the nation’s capital.
Some residents have resorted to drilling private boreholes, but many cannot afford the cost. The FCT administration has yet to issue an official statement, but insiders say the minister has been briefed on the situation.
It remains to be seen whether Wike will swiftly resolve the crisis or allow it to fester like many other infrastructural failures in the territory.
