British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has reflected on his shocking fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois during their highly anticipated bout at Wembley Stadium.
In front of a packed audience of 96,000, Joshua was knocked down four times before a powerful right hand from Dubois ended the contest in the fifth round.
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Joshua admitted that several mistakes contributed to his defeat. He explained that his failure to properly defend himself after the first round left him vulnerable throughout the fight.
“It was downhill from there,” Joshua said, referring to an overhand right punch he received in the opening round.
Despite a strong start in the fifth round, Joshua acknowledged that he was unable to capitalize on his momentum, getting caught by another heavy blow while attempting an uppercut.
He concluded that Dubois’ precision in landing shots played a key role in the outcome. Joshua expressed disappointment but vowed to learn from the experience as he plans his next move.
