CAF Removes Nigeria vs. Libya AFCON Qualifier Amid Controversy

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the Nigeria vs. Libya AFCON qualifier from its fixture list amid growing controversy.

The Nigerian team faced difficulties after being stranded at a Libyan airport for over 16 hours following their arrival for the return leg of the Group D 2025 AFCON qualifier.

CAF’s updated list of matches on X (formerly Twitter) omitted the Nigeria-Libya game, sparking speculation about its cancellation. Nigeria had previously defeated Libya in Uyo, and the return fixture was scheduled for Benghazi.

The Nigerian delegation’s ordeal, including an unexpected diversion of their flight and lack of support from the Libyan Football Federation, has prompted demands for sanctions and investigations into the incident.
