Nigeria’s Falconets have stormed into the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a commanding 3-0 victory over England in their Round of 16 clash in Poland.
Tosin Rafiu set the tone with a stunning seventh-minute strike that is already being tipped as a contender for goal of the tournament.
Janet Akekoromowei, who was named Player of the Match, tormented the English defence all afternoon as Nigeria controlled the game with pace and confidence.
The win sends a strong message that Nigeria’s youth football remains a force to reckon with on the global stage, even as the senior national teams struggle with inconsistent form.
For a country weighed down by economic hardship and insecurity, the Falconets’ performance offers a rare moment of national pride.
Fans across Nigeria celebrated the result, hoping the team can go all the way and bring home the trophy. The quarter-final fixture now awaits.
