FIFA President Gianni Infantino has condemned the chaotic scenes that marred Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final, describing the conduct of some players and supporters as unacceptable.
The final was disrupted when several Senegalese players walked off the pitch in protest after Morocco were awarded a late penalty following a VAR review.
“We strongly condemn the behaviour of some supporters as well as some Senegalese players and technical staff members,” Infantino said, stressing that teams must respect officials’ decisions.
The match was delayed for nearly 20 minutes amid pitch-side protests and crowd disturbances before the penalty was taken and missed. Senegal later scored in extra time to secure a 1–0 victory.
Infantino warned that such actions undermine the spirit of football and set a poor example for fans worldwide, adding that CAF’s disciplinary bodies were expected to take appropriate measures.
