Cairo, Egypt – In a monumental decision, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee has declared Morocco as the host nation for the highly anticipated 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This historic announcement was unveiled on Wednesday, September 27, rekindling memories of Morocco’s last AFCON hosting in 1988.
Morocco’s path to hosting this prestigious event was fraught with challenges, as the nation was originally selected to host in 2015 but had to defer due to the Ebola virus outbreak. Subsequently, CAF withdrew the hosting rights from Morocco. However, their perseverance has now paid off.
In another exciting revelation, the CAF committee disclosed that the 2027 edition of AFCON will witness a joint hosting effort, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania sharing the honor. This collaboration showcases Africa’s commitment to fostering unity through football.
