Favour Ashe, a Nigerian athlete celebrated for his achievements, has been apprehended by Auburn police in the United States on charges of theft and fraud. The arrest stemmed from a report filed regarding items stolen from a purse near West Magnolia Avenue.
Ashe, 21, faces four counts of fraudulent use of a debit/credit card and two counts of theft of property third degree. Among the stolen items was a credit card, used for fraudulent transactions.
Currently held at Lee County Jail on a $9,000 bond, Ashe’s athletic career includes a bronze medal in the 4x400m event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the title of national 100-meter champion in 2022.
This incident adds Ashe to the list of Nigerian athletes facing legal issues abroad, following similar cases involving Emmanuel Ineh and Toluwani Adebakin in 2022.
