Nigeria’s Sports Development Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, has praised world record holder Tobi Amusan for her impressive performance at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational, where she posted a world-leading time of 12.40s in the 100m hurdles.
Amusan’s victory, which saw her defeat World Champion Danielle Williams and Christina Clemons, has sparked hope for Nigeria’s chances at the upcoming Paris Olympics. Senator Enoh took to his Facebook page to congratulate Amusan, writing: “Take your flowers Tobi Amusan, you stormed to an emphatic win… clocking a World Lead time! You keep making our country proud.
Paris Olympics is around the corner, your performance gives us hope… that Nigeria is set to break a jinx. Keep soaring, we are proud of you.”
In a separate development, Amusan has also set a new African women’s indoor 60-meter record of 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, further cementing her status as a sprint icon.
