Super Eagles Drop to 40th Position in Latest FIFA Ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have slipped from the 39th to the 40th position in the latest FIFA Coca-Cola world ranking. The ranking was updated on FIFA’s website on September 21, 2022. Despite their 6-0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in the final 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the result had no positive impact on their ranking.

In Africa, the Super Eagles currently hold the sixth position, with Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt ahead of them.

Lesotho, one of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C qualifying opponents, dropped to the 152nd position. South Africa, Benin Republic, Zimbabwe, and Rwanda, who are also in the same group, had mixed ranking results.

Argentina remains at the top of the global ranking following their victories in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, while France occupies the second position. The top five is rounded out by Brazil, England, and Belgium.

Croatia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, and Spain complete the top ten rankings.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on October 26, 2023.
