Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been appointed the new captain of the Super Eagles following the retirements of former skippers Ahmed Musa and William Troost-Ekong.
Ndidi, who has worn the armband as stand-in on several occasions, now takes on the leadership role permanently.
Speaking on his appointment, Ndidi described the role as a “huge responsibility,” adding that unity and shared purpose will be essential ahead of upcoming AFCON preparations.
He said he has already held discussions with teammates to align expectations and build cohesion within the squad.
Ndidi paid glowing tribute to Troost-Ekong, calling him an “amazing leader” whose influence will continue to guide the team.
“He stands for the team, speaks for the team, and everyone looks up to him. We spoke recently and he offered more advice. He will be missed,” he said.
With the transition in leadership, the Super Eagles are expected to intensify preparations for regional and continental competitions, aiming to build a renewed, disciplined squad under Ndidi’s captaincy.
