Nigeria to Launch New Communication Satellites

Nigeria is set to launch two advanced communication satellites, NigComSat-2A and NigComSat-2B, to enhance its digital infrastructure, national security, and economic growth.

The satellites, managed by the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat Ltd), are high-throughput and will expand digital connectivity across West, Central, South, and parts of East Africa.

This initiative will replace the existing NigComSat-1R, which has been operational since 2011 and is nearing the end of its lifespan.

The project will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with a Request for Proposal (RFP) already issued to attract global partners. According to Mrs.

Jane Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, the CEO of NigComSat Ltd, the new satellites will support various sectors, including broadband, education, agriculture, and smart city applications, positioning Nigeria as a leading space-faring nation in Africa.
