Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima has launched the Skillnovation Programme. This initiative aims to provide essential digital skills to over three million Nigerians, equipping them for success in the global economy. The program, a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and ALAT, is poised to support the information technology revolution and enhance economic and social interactions while boosting productivity in Nigeria.
The Skillnovation Programme’s core feature is the establishment of 15 state-of-the-art ICT centers strategically positioned across Nigeria. These centers will offer individuals and businesses access to cutting-edge digital training, resources, and support.
The first phase will concentrate on the states of Katsina, Anambra, Borno, Lagos, Oyo, and Kano, while the second phase will include Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, and Ekiti States.
Vice-President Shettima described Skillnovation as a transformative initiative that ushers in a new era of digital empowerment for Nigerians. He emphasized that digital skills are now the cornerstone of economic growth and expansion, acknowledging the world’s transition into a realm defined by the fourth Industrial Revolution.
Furthermore, the Vice President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting small businesses across Nigeria and assured that nobody would be excluded from the Skillnovation Programme, regardless of age, gender, or disability.
The Skillnovation Programme aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of a digitally empowered and economically prosperous Nigeria. It is expected to create jobs, drive economic growth, and enhance the livelihoods of millions of Nigerians.
The event also featured remarks from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, Mr. Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, and the Managing Director of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni. Oseni announced the establishment of skills training centers in 17 states, with the program directly impacting 2 million youths and 1 million small businesses.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijjani, and Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State also expressed their support for the initiative, emphasizing its potential to empower young Nigerians and position Nigeria as a global technology leader. Several ministers and government officials were in attendance, highlighting the government’s commitment to this transformative program.
