AfDB Commits to Funding $15.6 Billion Abidjan to Lagos Highway Project

The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group has restated its commitment to funding the construction of the Abidjan to Lagos highway project, which aims to link major cities and ports in West Africa.
The AfDB has already contributed $25 million to fund the preparatory phase of the project and mobilized $15.6 billion during the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) in 2022. The project envisions a 1,081-kilometer highway linking Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. It will boost trade and integration in West Africa and offer maritime port access to landlocked countries, enhancing regional economic development and job creation.
The highway will also speed up the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfDB’s efforts to mobilize private investors and donors for the project are ongoing.
