Speaking at the African Peace and Security Dialogue in South Africa, leaders pointed out that foreign interventions have failed to resolve the myriad of issues, ranging from climate crises to violent conflicts.
Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, Chair of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, highlighted Africa’s failure to implement sustainable, Africa-driven peace strategies, leading to persistent instability.
Nigerian scholar Professor Funmi Olonisakin echoed these sentiments, stressing that Africa’s leadership often overlooks local knowledge in favor of external influences, worsening security challenges.
The dialogue called for a unified approach involving African countries like Nigeria, South Africa, and Ethiopia to address pressing issues such as military coups, famine, and civil wars.
The leaders agreed that peace in Africa could only be achieved through African initiatives, with scholars advocating for African-led dialogue and solutions to promote stability and growth.
