Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has confirmed that Arab states firmly reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza and assume control over the territory.
During discussions in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Abdelatty underscored the urgency of expediting Gaza’s reconstruction while ensuring that Palestinians remain in their homeland.
Abdelatty reiterated that any plan aimed at displacing the people of Gaza runs counter to regional aspirations for peace and stability.
He stressed that reconstruction efforts must involve Palestinian participation and be driven by a comprehensive political and security framework.
In separate meetings with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, he reaffirmed Arab states’ commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The proposal, initially suggested by Trump, has sparked widespread condemnation among Arab leaders and Palestinian officials, who view it as an attempt at ethnic cleansing.
With Gaza still reeling from extensive destruction and a humanitarian crisis exacerbated by ongoing conflict, Arab states are calling for solutions that prioritize rebuilding the territory without displacing its residents.
