French Prime Minister resigns ahead of expected reshuffle

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne has resigned ahead of an expected cabinet reshuffle by President Emmanuel Macron.

Borne, who took office in May 2022, submitted the government’s resignation, which Macron accepted.
The move is seen as an effort to breathe new life into Macron’s presidency after a challenging 2023 marked by political crises.
Potential candidates to replace Borne include Education Minister Gabriel Attal, Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu, Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, and former Agriculture Minister Julien Denormandie.
