The director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, has revealed that 21 children have died from malnutrition and starvation in just three days, highlighting the worsening humanitarian disaster in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
He said hospitals were receiving new cases of starving children “every moment,” blaming Israel’s military blockade and continued airstrikes for the deadly conditions. UN officials echoed his concerns, with Secretary-General António Guterres calling Gaza a “horror show.”
Since Israel reimposed a full blockade in March following a failed ceasefire, food and aid access have drastically declined. The UN reported that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while trying to access food, including 766 near Gaza Humanitarian Foundation sites.
Israeli forces have intensified operations in central Gaza, with deadly strikes on the Al-Shati camp and Deir el-Balah, displacing thousands more.
The World Health Organization has condemned Israeli raids on its facilities, while the Vatican and other global voices have decried the worsening crisis. The Palestinian death toll now stands at 59,106 since the war began in October 2023.
