The ruling military junta in Niger has shut down the country’s airspace in response to the threat of military intervention by ECOWAS.
The regional bloc had issued an ultimatum to restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to power, which expired on August 6.
The junta warned of an “energetic and immediate response” to any attempt to violate the airspace.
Reports indicate no aircraft were operating in Niger’s skies after the closure.
Meanwhile, the CNSP, now in power, has warned of potential co-belligerents and revealed pre-deployment preparations made by two Central African countries.
Thousands of coup supporters rallied in Niamey to back the CNSP leadership.
