Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary 30-day halt to strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure following discussions with former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Kremlin stated that the decision aims to ease tensions in the ongoing conflict.
During their call, Putin reportedly emphasized the need to end forced conscription in Ukraine and halt Western military aid to Kyiv.
While Putin agreed to Trump’s request for a temporary ceasefire on energy targets, he warned that a long-term resolution depended on the withdrawal of foreign support to Ukraine.
In addition to the ceasefire, both sides agreed to a prisoner exchange, with 175 detainees set to be swapped between Russia and Ukraine.
However, Ukraine remains cautious about Putin’s intentions, with analysts suggesting that the pause could be a strategic move rather than a step toward lasting peace.
Despite the temporary halt, the war remains far from over, as Russia continues to demand significant concessions before considering a broader peace agreement.
