British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced his resignation as leader of the Labour Party, setting the stage for a leadership contest that will determine who takes over government before Parliament returns from its summer break.
In an emotional address outside 10 Downing Street on Monday, Starmer said he had accepted the verdict of his party after growing questions about his ability to lead Labour into the next general election.
