The United Nations human rights office has demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who was shot dead by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer.
UN spokesman Jeremy Laurence said the use of lethal force is only justified as a last resort under international human rights law, stressing that available evidence raised serious concerns.
The killing, which occurred in a Midwestern US city, has triggered nationwide protests amid criticism of the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement tactics.
While federal authorities insist the officer acted in self-defence, local officials dispute the claim, citing footage showing Good’s vehicle moving away from the agent.
The UN noted that the exclusion of local authorities from the FBI-led investigation further undermines public confidence, urging de-escalation and restraint.
