Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), expressed deep concern about the widespread suffering, violence, and climate-related disasters experienced globally in 2023.
In his New Year’s message, Guterres emphasized that 2023 was the hottest year on record and highlighted the challenges humanity faced, including growing poverty, hunger, and increasing conflicts.
He urged people to unite across differences and find collective solutions in 2024, emphasizing that assigning blame or resorting to violence will not bring progress.
Guterres called for rebuilding trust, restoring hope, and addressing issues like climate action, economic opportunity, and fair global financial systems.
He wished for a peaceful New Year and pledged the UN’s commitment to rallying the world for peace, sustainable development, and human rights in 2024.
