US Warns Niger Junta of Possible Military Involvement

The United States of America has cautioned the Niger junta that military intervention might occur if constitutional order is not restored.

US Deputy Secretary Victoria Nuland made this known during a teleconference. She emphasized diplomatic solutions and urged prudence from the junta.

She said President Joe Biden has maintained contact with President Tinubu and ECOWAS Chairperson, working to uphold democratic values and counterterrorism efforts.

Nuland added that the US remains concerned about the challenge to democracy since July 26.
