The National Assembly has introduced new security restrictions around the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a memo dated October 2, the serjeant-at-arms, Etido Ekpo, directed that the passage linking the White House lobby to Akpabio’s office will now be reserved strictly for senators and House members.
Aides and personal assistants are no longer permitted access. “The measure is to ensure a safe and secure environment for legislative work,” Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general, explained.
The memo urged senators to inform their aides accordingly. The move comes ahead of plenary resumption on October 7 after a two-month recess.
The restriction reflects heightened concerns over security and crowd control in Nigeria’s legislature.
By tightening movement around the Senate President’s office, officials aim to limit potential disruptions and safeguard parliamentary proceedings.
