Nigeria’s sprint queen Tobi Amusan has won silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, clocking an impressive 12.29 seconds.
Amusan was narrowly beaten by Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who stormed to gold in 12.24 seconds, setting a new national record, while the USA’s Grace Stark took bronze in 12.34.
The final also saw Masai Russell (USA) finish fourth in 12.44, Pia Skrzyszowska (Poland) and Devynne Charlton (Bahamas) share fifth with 12.49, Danielle Williams (Jamaica) sixth in 12.53, and Nadine Visser (Netherlands) seventh in 12.56.
Earlier, Amusan had dominated her semifinal in 12.36 seconds to qualify comfortably for the final.
The silver marks Nigeria’s first podium finish at these championships and extends its overall World Championships medal haul to 12.
At 28, Amusan adds this silver to her five national titles, three consecutive Diamond League trophies, and her 2022 world record of 12.12s—the first ever for Nigeria.
The National Sports Commission hailed her consistency and called her “a symbol of hope, determination, and excellence.”
