Kogi State is once again in the grip of devastating floods, with Ibaji Local Government declared fully submerged.
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) warned that more flooding is imminent as Rivers Niger and Benue continue to swell with excess dam water.
Already, five communities—Ota, Ofogbo, Itima, Owara, and others—have been overrun, while 258 flood-prone areas across eight LGAs remain on red alert. To prepare, 42 IDP camps have been fumigated, and health workers mobilised.
SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Mouktar Atima, said the next 72 hours would be “critical,” urging residents near riverbanks to evacuate.
Health Commissioner, Dr. Adams Abdullazeez, pledged readiness to curb outbreaks, citing last year’s zero casualties as proof of preparedness.
