Tinubu: “It’s Africa’s Turn” — Nigeria Bids to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

Nigeria has officially pitched Abuja to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will mark the centenary of the event.

President Bola Tinubu, in a passionate appeal, said it was time Africa hosted the Games, positioning Nigeria as “gateway to Africa” and urging the Commonwealth to make history.

Competing with India’s bid, Nigeria emphasised inclusivity, youth development, and cultural exchange in its presentation to the Commonwealth Games Federation.

A Nigerian delegation in London showcased plans for energy-efficient venues, creative industry integration, and shared legacy projects.

Tinubu insisted awarding Nigeria the Games would affirm Africa’s central role in the Commonwealth family. Abuja last week also hosted a Bid Evaluation Committee to inspect facilities and readiness.
