The Federal Government has issued an urgent flood alert, warning that 11 states face the risk of heavy rainfall and possible flooding between Sunday and Thursday.
In a notice by the National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Ministry of Environment, the vulnerable locations include Ganye and Natubi in Adamawa; Abinsi, Agyo, Gogo, Ito, Makurdi, Udoma, and Ukpiam in Benue; Agima, Rukubi, and Odogbo in Nasarawa; and Beli, Serti, and Donga in Taraba.
Others are Umugboma, Umukwata, Abraka, Aboh, and Okpo-Krika in Delta; Rijau in Niger; Ribah in Kebbi; Gwarzo and Karaye in Kano; Jibia in Katsina; Makira in Sokoto; and Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Maradun, Gusau, Anka, and Bungudu in Zamfara.
The Centre noted rising water levels in Rivers Gongola, Benue, and Niger, urging floodplain communities—especially those around Numan and Lokoja—to evacuate immediately.
It advised states to activate emergency response measures, while local communities are urged to stay alert, avoid waterways, and provide prompt feedback to relevant agencies to mitigate the impact of any potential disaster.
