Africa’s largest refinery is set to become the world’s biggest. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced plans to expand its production capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day, surpassing India’s Jamnagar Refinery.
Chairman Aliko Dangote disclosed the plan in Lagos, stating that the three-year expansion will create about 65,000 jobs—85 percent for Nigerians—and upgrade output to Euro VI fuel standards, meeting top global environmental benchmarks.
He added that power generation at the refinery would also double from 500 to 1,000 megawatts to support the expanded operations.
Dangote further revealed plans to list the refinery on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2026, giving citizens the chance to invest in the mega facility.
Dangote thanked President Bola Tinubu for continued support, emphasizing that the expansion would enhance Nigeria’s energy independence, boost exports, and strengthen the nation’s position as a regional refining hub.
